1lbground Italian sausagemild or hot, casing removed
1large egglightly beaten
½cupshredded mozzarella cheesefor the crust
¼cupgrated Parmesan cheese
1tspItalian seasoning
½cuplow-carb marinara sauceensure no added sugar
1cupshredded mozzarella cheesefor the topping
½green bell pepperthinly sliced
½red bell pepperthinly sliced
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet or pizza pan with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground Italian sausage, beaten egg, 1/2 cup of mozzarella, grated Parmesan cheese, and Italian seasoning. Use your hands to mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
Transfer the sausage mixture to the center of the prepared baking sheet. Press it out evenly into a 10-12 inch circle, about 1/4 inch thick, to form the pizza crust. Build up a slightly thicker edge to act as a crust rim.
Bake the sausage crust for 10-12 minutes, or until it is cooked through and lightly browned. Remove from the oven and carefully drain off any excess grease from the pan.
Spread the low-carb marinara sauce evenly over the pre-baked sausage crust, leaving a small border around the edge. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of mozzarella cheese over the sauce. Arrange the sliced green and red bell peppers on top.
Return the pizza to the oven and bake for another 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden. You can switch to the broiler for the last 1-2 minutes for extra browning, but watch it carefully.
Let the pizza cool on the pan for 5 minutes before slicing with a pizza cutter. This helps it set and makes for cleaner slices. Serve immediately.
Notes
Chef's Tip: For a crispier crust, after draining the grease, pat the surface of the sausage crust gently with a paper towel before adding toppings.Variations: Feel free to add other low-carb toppings like mushrooms, onions, black olives, or pepperoni.Storage: Store leftover pizza in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or an air fryer for best results.
